Day 1. Monday, January 19: Transatlantic flight to Tel Aviv
Day 2. Tuesday, January 20: Tel-Aviv Welcome to the Holy Land! Upon arrival in Tel Aviv, you will be greeted at the airport by your guide and will transfer to your hotel in Tel Aviv for overnight and dinner. (D)
Day 3. Wednesday, January 21: Caesarea Maritima, Mt. Carmel, Haifa, Cana - Tiberias We begin our journey with a visit to Caesarea Maritima. Here we will visit the Roman Theater, Herod’s Palace & the Crusader Citadel. This is where St. Peter baptized the Roman Centurion, Cornelius, and his family. St. Paul was also imprisoned here for two years. We will continue to Mt. Carmel to visit the Cave of the Prophet Elijah and the site of the founding of the Carmelite Order. We will stop for lunch in Haifa before making our final stop of the day will be Cana of Galilee where we will celebrate mass and have our married pilgrims reaffirm their marriage vows. Dinner and overnight will be in our Tiberias hotel on the Sea of Galilee. (B, D)
Day 4. Thursday, January 22: Nazareth, Mt. Precipice, Mt. Tabor – Tiberias This morning, we visit Nazareth to the Basilica of the Annunciation, the place where the Angel appeared to Our Blessed Mother and announced the birth of Jesus. Here we will celebrate Mass. We will have lunch at a local restaurant before we continue to visit the Church of St. Joseph, built where the carpentry workshop of St. Joseph used to be. Just south of Nazareth is Mount Precipice, the traditional site of the cliff that an angry mob attempted to throw Our Lord from after His bold proclamation in the Nazareth synagogue. Our final stop of the day, we will drive to Mount Tabor and enjoy beautiful views of the Jezreel Valley and the Plain of Esdraelon. Visit the Church of the Transfiguration, built on the site of Our Lord’s Transfiguration. Return to Tiberias for dinner and overnight. After dinner there is an optional Wine Tasting in Tiberias. Day 5. Friday, January 23: Sea of Galilee - Tiberias The day opens with Mass on the Mount of Beatitudes, the scene of the Sermon on the Mount. Nearby, visit the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes, where the miracle of the Feeding of Five Thousand took place. Continue to the Church of the Primacy of St. Peter situated at the shores of the Sea of Galilee, where Our Lord appeared to His disciples after His resurrection. Afterwards, explore the ruins of Capharnaum, including the ancient Jewish synagogue and St. Peter’s house, followed by a flavorful lunch featuring the traditional “St. Peter’s Fish” at Pilgerhaus. Next, enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, where Our Lord performed many miracles. Next we will visit Yigal Alon Museum to see a 1st c. fishing boat. Before returning to Tiberias, we will visit site of Magdala, the ancient Jewish city on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, and hometown of St. Mary Magdalene. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. Day 6. Saturday, January 24: Baptismal Site, Qumran, Jericho, Dead Sea – Jerusalem Departing Tiberias, we will drive and have a visit to Qasr Al Yehound, the western part of the traditional site of the baptism of Our Lord by St. John the Baptist. Here we will celebrate Mass. After a lunch stop and some shopping of Dead Sea products in Jericho, we will visit the Caves of Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, and enjoy a spectacular view of the Dead Sea. On your way to Jerusalem, you will have an opportunity to wade and float in the Dead Sea. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. (B, L, D)
Day 7. Sunday, January 25: Ein Kerem – Israel Museum – Jewish Quarter – Western Wall Beginning our day visiting the city of Ein Karem, the birthplace of St. John the Baptist. Visit the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Church of the Visitation, built over the home of Zacharias. Here we will celebrate Mass. After lunch, we’ll head to the Israel Museum where we will visit the Second Temple Period Model of Jerusalem, a 1:50 scaled model of the city from the year 66 AD. We will also visit the Shrine of the Book where the Dead Sea Scrolls are on exhibit. Today’s sightseeing will finish with a visit to Jewish Quarter and Judaism’s holiest site, the Western Wall. An option excursion for this evening is continuing to view the Western Wall excavations underground. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. (B, D)
Day 8. Monday, January 26: Shepherd Field – Bethlehem (Church of Nativity & Milk Grotto) Beginning our day on a sightseeing tour of Bethlehem, the royal city of David, to celebrate Mass and to pray at the Cave of the Nativity, the birthplace of Our Lord. Continue to Shepherds’ Field, also the site of Boaz’s field, to see the cave of the shepherds where the angels appeared and announced the birth of Christ. After lunch at Casa Nova Restaurant, we will enjoy the opportunity to do some shopping at a Christian Coop Store. Before returning to our hotel, we will make a final stop at the Milk Grotto, a Catholic chapel in Bethlehem, where tradition says is the place where the Holy Family found refigure during the Massacre of the Innocents, before they fled to Egypt. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. (B, L, D)
Day 9. Tuesday, January 27: Jerusalem – Mt. of Olives – Mt. Zion – St. Anne’s – Ecco Homo This morning, visit Mount of Olives for a beautiful panoramic view of Jerusalem. Continue down on the Palm Sunday road on Mount Olivet visiting the Church of Dominus Flevit, where Our Lord wept over the city of Jerusalem. Arrive into the Kidron Valley to the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations, where Our Lord began the way of His Passion. It is here that we will celebrate Mass. Then in the afternoon, to Mount Zion to visit the Upper Room where the Last Supper took place, the Church of the Dormition erected on the spot where Our Lady was assumed into heaven, and the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, where St. Peter denied Our Lord. Afterwards, visit the Church of St. Anne, erected over the traditional site of the birthplace of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Continue to the Pool of Bethesda excavations, identified as the scene of the healing of the paralytic. Then, visit the Flagellation Church that enshrines the spot where Our Lord was flogged. Next is Ecce Homo Church, erected where Pontius Pilate presented Our Lord to the hostile Jewish crowd. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. (B, D)
Day 10. Wednesday, January 28: Jerusalem Early this morning, carry the cross and follow the Via Dolorosa, the Way of the Cross, ending with the Church of the Holy Sepulcher where we will celebrate Mass. Then, enjoy an in-depth tour of this church, including a visit to the tomb of our forefather Adam and the tombs of Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea, as well as a tour of the Holy Sepulcher chapels. We will have a breakfast back at the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Suggestions on how to spend this free time will be given. Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant. Day 11. Thursday, January 29: Jerusalem – Airport / Jordan – Petra The group will split in two this morning. For those headed back home, we will say goodbye and you will be brought to the airport for your early morning departure.
Those continuing to Jordan, we will make our way to the border crossing. We will visit the Madaba Church with the famous Byzantine period church housing the mosaic showing the city of Jerusalem amongst other locations. After lunch we then continue to Mt. Nebo where Moses stood to view the Promised Land. Continuing on to our hotel in Petra for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)
Day 12. Friday, January 30: Petra We start the day with Mass and after breakfast, we begin a long day with our visit to Petra. From the main entrance, we travel on foot through the awesome "siq", an immense crack in the sandstone that winds for one kilometer between overhanging cliffs. (There is the option to ride a horse to the beginning of the siq.) Petra's most famous monument, the Treasury, appears dramatically at the end of the siq. Various walks & climbs reveal literally hundreds of buildings, facades, tombs, baths, funerary halls, temples & a 3000 seat theater from the 1st Century AD. Our guide provides explanation & orientation as we walk to the Treasury. We return to our hotel in Petra for dinner and rest before departing for the airport for our early morning flight back to the USA. (B, L, D)
