Day 1: Monday, January 27 - Transatlantic flight to Milan, Italy
Day 2: Tuesday, January 28 - Milan/Florence
Welcome to Milan airport, where you will be greeted by a tour escort. You will make your way to the bus and transfer to the city center. Guided walking tour of the city including the Gothic Duomo. It is here that we will celebrate our welcome Mass, followed by lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to Florence, the Cradle of Renaissance. Dinner and overnight in Florence. (L, D)
Day 3: Wedesday, January 29 - Florence
After breakfast enjoy a guided walking tour of Florence. The tour starts at the Basilica of Santa Croce, where many nobles are buried, such as Michelangelo, Galileo, and Machiavelli. Here we will celebrate Mass. Continue to walk by Piazza Signorina, Palazzo Vecchio, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, and Republic Square to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. This Cathedral is an iconic piece of architecture of the city of Florence. It was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi in the 13th century. Next, a visit to L’Accademia, the well-known art gallery. At this gallery, you will have the opportunity to view the work from artists such as Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Pontormo and the ever-famous sculpture by Michelangelo, David. Return to hotel for dinner and an overnight. (B, D)
Day 4: Thursday, January 30 - Florence, Siena, Assisi
Today we depart Florence and drive to the Tuscan city of Siena. This medieval city is the birthplace of St. Catherine “Doctor of the Church”, and the Apostle of Italy, St. Bernardine. Visit of the Basilica of St. Catherine (which is also known as the Basilica of St. Domenico). St. Catherine passed a large part of her life inside the walls of this Basilica. It is here you will also view the incorrupt head of St. Catherine. After, visit the Shrine of St. Catherine, which occupies the site of her family home. Enjoy your walking tour through the Siena including a visit to its Cathedral (Duomo di Siena). Conclude at one of Italy’s finest squares, the Piazza Del Campo, where you will be given free time to spend at your own leisure. Before continuing on to Assisi, we will enjoy a wine tasting at one of the local vineyards. Our dinner and overnight will be in Assisi, the hometown of St. Francis and St. Clare. (B, D)
Day 5: Friday, January 31 - Assisi
This morning, we will start our journey at the St. Francis Basilica, celebrate Mass, visit his tomb of St. Francis, and have the opportunity to view a series of frescoes depicting his life, along with a few of the saint’s possessions. After a stop for lunch, we will make a visit to the Santuario Della Spogliazione where Blessed Carlo Acutis’ tomb is placed. Carlo is the first millennial to be declared Blessed who loved the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. From there, you will continue on a walking tour through this picturesque town, including the birthplace of St. Francis, and end with a tour of the Church that honors St. Clare, the foundress of the Poor Clare Sisters. This Saint followed the teachings of St. Francis very closely by also living a life of poverty and humility. Balance of the day at your leisure. Return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight. Day 6: Saturday, February 1 - Assisi/Rome
After breakfast, before leaving Assisi, we will visit the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. This Basilica is made up of two structures, both of which you will visit. The first structure is the “Porziuncola” and the second is the “Capella del Transito” which is the place where St. Francis died. Continue to Rome for lunch near the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Wall. After lunch enjoy a guided visit and Mass. Transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)
Day 7: Sunday, February 2 - Rome
We begin the day with Mass and at midday attend the Angelus with the Holy Father at St Peter’s Square. After lunch on own we tour St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter the Apostle was martyred. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to view Michelangelo’s Pieta sculpture, pray at the tombs of Pope Benedict XVI and St. John Paul II. Next you will visit the Vatican Museums, where you can see the Tapestry Gallery, Raphael Rooms, and Sistine Chapel. Dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 8: Monday, February 3 - Rome
Today, we celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St Peter’s in Chains. We will then make our way to our Ancient Rome tour where we will see the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. (exterior only) Following lunch, we will have a downtown walking tour of Rome including, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, Via del Corso, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Santa Maria Sopra. Dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)
Day 9: Tuesday, February 4 - Rome
This morning, you will visit the oldest of the four major Basilicas in Rome, and the home to the relics of Peter and Paul, the Basilica of St. John the Lateran. This Basilica is where Pope Francis was installed as Bishop of Rome, and where he officiates as the Bishop of Rome. Next, we will cross the street to visit the Holy Staircase. Tradition states that this staircase is from Pontius Pilate’s palace of Jerusalem during the time of Jesus. It is also said that this Staircase was brought to Rome by St. Helen in the 4th century. If time permits, you may climb the steps on your knees, in memory of Christ’s agonizing Passion. To conclude your day, we will proceed to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, it is here that we will celebrate Mass. This Basilica contains a relic from the Manger of the Infant Jesus. Afternoon at your leisure. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 10 - Wednesday, February 5 - Rome
This morning, attend the Papal Audience in St. Peter’s Square. Balance of the day at leisure. We will gather in late afternoon for Mass at a local church before enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight. (B, D)
Day 11 - Thursday, February 6 - Rome, USA
Transfer to Rome Fiumicino Airport. (B)
